11 Christians Killed During Christmas Day Attacks

Date:

12/28/2024 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) — As Christians worldwide celebrated Christ’s birth, armed Islamic militants targeted Christian communities in Kwande County, Benue state, killing 11 people.

The largest attack occurred during church services in Turan, a predominantly Catholic Tiv community near the borders of Taraba state and Cameroon. Unidentified Islamic militants launched additional surprise attacks, leaving many people injured and forcing many others to evacuate their homes. Numerous homes were damaged as well.

Despite recent peace-building initiatives by local leaders, including efforts by Bishop Isaac Bundepuun Dugu through a state-sponsored amnesty program, the community’s challenges persist. The once-thriving community of Turan now faces an uncertain future, with four out of five community areas largely deserted.
