I want to write my own history at Sevilla

Akor Adams has expressed his desire to write his own history at Sevilla and also be a part of the club’s history, adding that he is ready and fit to start playing.

Adams said this and even much more on Tuesday in his first interview as a Sevilla player with the Nigerian acknowledging that “this is a club with a lot of history and I want to be part of it”.

Adams has become the third Nigerian player to join Sevilla after the duo of compatriots, Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Sevilla on Monday announced his signing from Montpellier of France for a reported transfer fee of 5.5 million euros.

The Nigerian striker has signed until 2029 and in his first interview, he began by talking about his experience since his arrival in the city last Saturday.

“I am very happy to arrive here. It has been a very warm welcome. These two days have been very intense but luckily, everything is now closed and we are here.”

As soon as he landed, he travelled to Nervión for his first contact with the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán: “It was fantastic.

“The first impression left a mark on me from the anthem which I really liked. The atmosphere was very good and the fans were very good.

“We should have won the match but Espanyol were very good defensively. We hope to achieve that in the next match.”

He also admitted that his knowledge of Sevilla goes back a long way: “I have seen a lot of the club even before I could imagine that I would end up coming here.

“Above all, the things that have been achieved in Europe. They have conquered Europe, basically.

“I have seen many of the finals. It is a very big club and for me it is a pleasure to belong to it.”

With African players achieving a lot at Sevilla, some of them as top goalscorers, Adams said: “There is a lot of history in this club and I am here to be part of this history and also to try to write my own.

“These players have made the task easier for us and I also want to write my history at Sevilla.”

Today, he turns 25 and said: “Both me and my family are very happy. It has been a great welcome and for me, it is a great birthday present.”

On adapting to a new style of play as quickly as possible, the striker said: “Watching Saturday’s game, I saw myself in the team, in the roles I could fit into.

“In football, you never know until you start and I know that French football is different to Spanish football but I qm going to do everything I can to adapt quickly and fit in where the team needs me.

“It is important to know what the coach wants and do everything I can to fulfil it. I haven’t spoken to him yet but I hope to do so very soon.

“The other day in the game, I could already see how the team plays and as I said, I already saw the positions I can fit into. Wherever the team needs me, I will give my best.”

When asked to define himself as a striker, Adams said: “I like to play in spaces and I can play with another teammate up front or alone.

“I like to help the team to get rid of pressure and above all and most importantly, I like to score goals.”
He also made it clear that he is ready to start competing.

“The most important thing is that I am in good shape and that I am mentally prepared as well.

“I have had a very good reception since I arrived and I will simply join the group and try to adapt as quickly as possible, improving as the games go by. I am ready.”

Curiously, Adams had a goal-scoring breakthrough upon his arrival in both Norwegian and French football and hopes to repeat the feat in Spain.

“I hope to repeat it here. It would be great to enter a new environment and a new system and see that I continue doing what I have always done.

“In Norway, I had a very good career, I was in a good team and therefore, it was a collective achievement. In France I also achieved the same in my first season, so I hope to repeat the same here and give my best.”

On his objective as a Sevilla player, the Nigerian striker said: “More than my objective, our objective, now that I belong to the club, is to fight for Europe, to be a good teammate and to contribute to the team everything I can.”
