This is the first big award for Anora
Anora is officially on the board, in one of the categories that seemed likely, if not a lock. It’s also the first win for director and writer Sean Baker, who has four personal nominations tonight. If he ends up winning them all (original screenplay, editing, best picture and directing) he will join a rarefied crowd: only Walt Disney and Bong Joon Ho have accomplished that feat.
Though one of Joon’s trophies for Parasite, which triumphed in international feature, technically went to South Korea, not him.
