The Delta State government has emphasised the need to equip critical stakeholders with necessary skills needed for effective teaching and learning in the 21st century.
The Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, who gave the charge at a one-day capacity building workshop for principals, vice principals, and teachers in public secondary and private schools in the state, harped on the critical role of technology in education.
She noted that educational systems are being reshaped by technology, policy reforms and emerging challenges, hence, the need for school leaders and educators to follow the trend for innovative and effective leadership.
While applauding Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his contribution to educational development in the state, Ezewu said the workshop was aimed at strengthening leadership, enhance administrative efficiency and improve teaching and learning outcomes in secondary schools.
She underscored the critical role of continuous professional development in the education sector, stressing the state government’s commitment to raising the standard of secondary education in the state.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro, said in keeping with the spirit of public-private partnership, government extended the workshop to accommodate selected private school owners.
He expressed concern over the inability of teachers to operationalise curriculum, identifying it as one of the factors militating against raising the bar in the secondary education sub-sector.
Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Charles Emetulu, Chairman of the state Post Primary Education Board, Dr Emmanuel Tibi, and Permanent Secretary, Technical education, Dr. Gloria Patrick-Ferife, lauded the governor for his various investments in education.
