Yukon gives update on Victoria Gold heap leach failure

The government of the Yukon holds a briefing on the heap leach facility failure at Victoria Gold’s Eagle gold mine.

Officials with the Yukon government plan to give a briefing Thursday morning on how it is responding to the failure of the heap leach facility at Victoria Gold’s Eagle mine near Mayo.

You can watch the briefing live on this page starting at 10:30 a.m. Yukon time.

The briefing comes as experts working with the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun are sounding the alarm on the level of cyanide contamination at the mine site.

And last week, Victoria Gold warned it might not have the money to remediate the impacts of the heap leach failure — or even reopen.
