SIR: The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State recently went to town with a sensational headline announcing the expulsion of former Governor and immediate past Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, from the party.
According to the ‘breaking news,’ a letter of expulsion was issued, citing violations of Article 21 of the party’s constitution, which outlines disciplinary actions for members. The party accused Aregbesola of anti-party activities, including forming the Omoluabi Progressives group, which many APC members believe was created to challenge the party’s leadership.
Osun APC is today notorious for losing elections and some members claimed that they have suspended Aregbesola. This was how the Oyetola’s led government lied against Aregbesola without proofs. For good four years it was blame games. Those that boasted that they can win Osun 2022 governorship election without Aregbesola made President Bola Tinubu to lose 2023 presidential election in Osun State and today they are equally blaming Aregbesola for their loss.
The people of Osun State can’t go back to Egypt. Omoluabi Progressives since inception have linked their origin to the social welfarism ideology and political tendency of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as handed down through the ages through Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Abraham Adesanya and Chief Bola Ige, all of blessed memory. Omoluabi Progressives is more popular than APC which is a political party in Osun State today.
Omoluabi Progressives in Osun State is a group to foster positive change and create a more just, equitable, and prosperous society for all by advocating for social justice, promoting economic prosperity, enhancing governance and leadership, empowering communities, advancing progressive ideals, building partnerships and collaborations, and promoting civic engagement in Osun 2026 and 2027 general elections.
Some APC loyalists have resorted to threatening the life of Aregbesola, over his recent political activities in Osun. Oyetola contributed to the demise of APC in Osun State by placing IleriOluwa people above the party;
The ongoing crisis within the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress continues to attract widespread political commentary and analysis. It appears that some sponsors of the conflict are contented with the current state of affairs, which has set loyal party members against power-seeking factions steering its activities.
Recently, various factions within the IleriOluwa camp have begun presenting prospective candidates in preparation for the 2026 governorship election. However, is it wise to prepare for another contest while the current crisis remains unresolved?
The deafening silence of party leaders and stakeholders in Abuja on the issues of suspension, expulsion, and relentless attacks on perceived political adversaries raises serious questions. This silence could suggest two possibilities: either the Osun APC is complacent with its current trajectory, or it has devised an extraordinary strategy to overcome the political hurdles of the next election. Statistically, the party has lost more members than it has gained in the past two years—a worrying trend that cannot be ignored.
Osun’s political landscape is markedly different from that of states like Ondo and Ekiti, which also share off-cycle election timelines. While the APC has maintained electoral dominance in Ondo and Ekiti since 2018, Osun tells a different story, with its electorate demonstrating higher levels of awareness and engagement.
As the saying goes, “absolute power corrupts absolutely.” The Osun APC must now confront a critical question: will this self-inflicted war of attrition lead the party back to the Oke-Fia Government House, or will it consign it to the role of a perpetual opposition? Only time, the fairest of all judges, will provide the answer.
