Nigerian music artiste, Abdulazeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, has called on the public to hold him accountable for his actions rather than attributing his lifestyle to Islam.
Taking to his X handle, the singer emphasised that while Islam remains a perfect faith, its adherents, like all humans, are fallible.
He wrote: “Islam is perfect, Muslims are not. If I make a mistake, blame me, but not my religion.”
His statement has sparked widespread debate online, with users sharing differing perspectives.
A user remarked, “This is why Muslims are encouraged to live by the teachings of Islam. We must always strive to be good ambassadors of our faith.”

Another echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Well said! Islam, like any faith, is pure. It’s the people who fall short. Judge individuals, not religion.”
However, not all reactions were in agreement. One comment read, “Oh no, you’re the perfect representation of your religion—flaws and all.”
Adding a touch of satire, another user quipped, “By the way, if you can read actual Arabic (which I can), I’ll pick a song from your playlist and endure it all day.”
Summing up the discussion, a user noted, “No religion is perfect, just as no human is. Faith is meant to guide, not to claim superiority. What truly matters is how we live, treat others, and strive for truth.”
