5/2/2024 China (International Christian Concern) — After seven years in a Chinese prison, influential Christian human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng’s family still has no details on the status of his health or well-being.
Numerous advocacy and aid organizations continue to call upon the Communist authorities to release Gao or at least provide information to his wife and family about his location, health condition, and well-being. Gao turned 60 years old on April 20.
Since his latest arrest and subsequent disappearance in 2017, officials have provided no information about his status and health. Gao has been in and out of prison since 2006 and has endured torture and beatings from government officials throughout the years.
After Gao converted to Christianity, he had a long, distinguished legal career representing migrant workers and persecuted Christians in various parts of China. His work garnered so much attention that he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize twice.
