The Cross River State Government has officially reclaimed the Obudu Mountain Resort, following the termination of its concession agreement with CIBA Construction Company Limited.
An on-the-spot assessment revealed extensive damages and vandalism, estimated at a staggering N6.8 billion.
Leading the assessment team over the weekend, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Obudu Ranch Resort, Sunday Michael, assured the local community of the government’s commitment to restoring the resort to its former glory.
He emphasised that despite the significant losses, the state has launched a revitalisation team dedicated to transforming Obudu into a world-class tourist destination.
Michael was joined by the Special Adviser on Tourism Development, Tom Ikpeme, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Eme Afia, and other key stakeholders.
According to him, Governor Bassey Otu’s vision focuses on boosting tourism, creating job opportunities, and driving economic growth, highlighting the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Cross River State.
“With a renewed sense of purpose, the Obudu Mountain Resort is set to rise again stronger, more vibrant, and ready to welcome visitors from around the world,” Michael said.
The community has welcomed the government’s bold move with excitement, hopeful that the once-thriving tourist haven will soon reclaim its status as a top travel destination.
