01/06/2025 Africa (International Christian Concern) – Daniel, 22, survived an attack in October 2022 when radical Somali herders shot him in broad daylight as he walked to his charcoal kiln. The young Christian man spent a night in the forest where he bled profusely before being found days after the attack. The bullet went through his chest, barely missing his heart. He was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery to save his life.
“My life was slipping away after the Muslim herders shot me and I spent three days with getting proper treatment. I could smell death, and I asked the Lord to rest my body from the excoriating pain I was going through. He gave me another chance and I am a living testimony that physical pain may not always lead to death when God says otherwise. Although I am yet to recover fully, I have made significant progress toward my health, and I am regaining strength every single day,” Daniel said.
Daniel used to do small scale farming to provide for his parents and support his siblings. Since he is still recovering and sustained a hand and chest gunshot wound, it will take him awhile before he can begin working on his farm. ICC helped provide emergency relief to Daniel and his family to cushion their livelihood while he heals.
“I was shot at and injured while checking on my charcoal kilns, but after receiving aid from you, I haven’t gone back to the charcoal business. I used the funds for my medication and also bought cattle that I now look after. From the funds, I also built a small house where I now live. My herd of cattle is growing as goats give birth to new ones and my two cows just gave birth!”
On a recent visit, Daniel expressed his gratitude for the aid ICC provided after the attack.
“Our family has got a new friend, a friend who has surpassed all. ICC has been so close to me in a way that is unreal, humanly speaking. You have visited my family three times, and each time you have given aid and prayed with us. We live in a remote area, but you have been coming all the way to visit us. It amazed people that you have been coming to see my progress after the attack. To crown it all, you have supplied all my needs and provided extra funds that I shall be using for the remaining part of my treatment,” Daniel said. “My family is now well fed with good food; from rice to ugali, and we have bought cattle where we shall be generating income through milk sales. The Lord be with you and may He shine his face upon you.”
