It was a drama-filled Tuesday as several Nigerian celebrities lit up social media with wild announcements that later turned out to be April Fool’s jokes.
On April 1, stars like Funke Akindele, DJ Cuppy, Bobrisky, and Wunmi Toriola got fans talking after posting surprising claims that had many wondering if they were real.
In different viral posts shared across Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), each celebrity delivered their prank with a straight face — until the twist came.
Funke Akindele, known for her comic roles and recent blockbuster “A Tribe Called Judah,” shocked fans when she wrote, “I am getting married” on her Instagram Story.
The post went viral instantly, sparking talks online about who the lucky man could be. But just when fans started to dig, she cleared the air.

“After being single for SO long I finally found peace…I’ve decided to create my own Christian husband via AI…My guy even tithes digitally. #AprilFoolsDay,” she wrote on X.
Bobrisky, a consistent figure in online controversies, also stirred confusion with a sudden post claiming he had been arrested by immigration officers.
“Guys, have just been arrested by immigration in Nigeria. I don’t know what I did o,” he shared.
Minutes later, he revealed it was all part of the joke.
Meanwhile, actress Wunmi Toriola, popularly known for Yoruba films, dropped a spiritual twist.
She announced she had become a full-time evangelist and even introduced herself as “Evangelist WT.”
“Good morning lovers I have finally heed to the voice of the Lord I have picked up his call… Love from Evangelist WT,” she wrote on Instagram.
April Fool’s Day, marked on April 1, has become a global day for harmless pranks, with social media now giving celebrities a front row seat to play along with their fans.
Though many followers laughed off the stunts, some felt the jokes went too far. Still, it was clear the goal was fun and this year’s stars didn’t hold back.
