01/08/2024 Japan (International Christian Concern) —Although Christians only make up about 1% of the Japanese population, churches have organized a national disaster response church network to work with survivors of the earthquake, particularly in the Sendai and Fukushima areas.
Mission agency A3 (formerly Asian Access) is leading recovery efforts after the huge New Year’s Day 7.5 magnitude earthquake. The network hopes to share Christ and support thousands of people displaced or physically or mentally impacted by the disaster.
The death toll from the earthquake is well 100 people. A3’s works to nurture intentional learning communities to build and sustain Christ’s leaders around the world. They have focused on Asia, but their ministry is now expanding to other parts of the world. Although Christianity is viewed quite favorably in Japan, there are still major hurdles for the expansion of Christianity in the nation.
