Kaduna traders rally against El-Rufai’s legacy, back Sani, Tinubu | The Guardian Nigeria News

Date:

Hundreds of market women and traders in Kaduna State staged a protest to commemorate the demolition of markets and businesses carried out in Kaduna during the administration of former governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The protest took place in front of Mallam Sheikh Abubakar Muhammed Gumi Market and was attended by aggrieved traders who were victims of the demolition of their business premises and markets in the state.

Ahead of the 2027 elections, they also reaffirmed their loyalty and support for the administration of Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Tinubu.

The protesters, who gathered across Kaduna metropolis, alleged they had bitter experiences under the previous El-Rufai administration, which employed draconian laws and measures to clamp down on citizens and deprive them of their means of livelihood.

They vowed to stand firmly with Governor Sani and cautioned Kaduna residents against being swayed in a different direction or political party.

An aggrieved trader, Mallam Sumaila Ilya, said that no amount of political persuasion could wash former Governor El-Rufai clean of his character, saying, “We all know him, and Insha Allah, he will not succeed.”

During the protest, the traders urged the public to reject any future political ambitions of the former governor, vowing not to support his return to politics.

The traders, angered by what they described as illegal demolition, expressed full confidence in the leadership of the current governor, Senator Sani, describing his administration as beneficial to the business community.

The traders unanimously declared their support for Sani’s re-election while chanting slogans in favor of a second term for the governor.

Speakers at the event commended the efforts of Mallam Abdulrahman Muhammad, a leader among Kaduna traders, for his dedication and commitment to protecting the interests of traders in the state.
