7/30/2024 – Laos (International Christian Concern) — Pastor Thongkham Philavanh, 40, a Khmu Christian from North Laos, was attacked and shot twice in his home in Chang Village, Xai City, Oudomxai Province.
Pastor Thongkham’s wife took him to a local hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. This is the latest in a long line of anti-Christian attacks and discrimination against Lao Christians, including the unsolved murder of Pastor Sy Sengmany in 2022, and the destruction of homes and Bibles in Southern Laos earlier this year.
Pastor Thongkham leaves behind his wife and two children. The Lao and global Christian community mourn this loss. Efforts are underway to support his wife and children and local church.
We take comfort in the words of the Apostle Paul: “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21).”
