The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Bauchi State Command, has announced the arrest of 415 suspects and the seizure of 1.2 tonnes of various drugs between January and December 2024.

The agency disclosed that the illicit drugs include cannabis sativa (popularly known as wee-wee), diazepam, exol-5, pentazocine, methamphetamine, Rohypnol, and tramadol.

The State Commander of the Agency, Commander of Narcotics Ali Aminu, stated this in a press release on Tuesday. He explained that 70 cases were charged to court, 84 suspects were prosecuted, and 18 cases are still pending at the Federal High Court, Bauchi.

According to him, 137 drug users have been counselled and rehabilitated, with the majority undergoing brief interventions in NDLEA custody in Bauchi.

Aminu warned the general public to desist from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, stressing that anyone caught with hard drugs would be prosecuted.

He lauded the Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd), for repositioning the Agency and inspiring the personnel to rededicate themselves to fighting the scourge of illicit drug abuse and trafficking.

Aminu also commended the State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for his interest and logistical support in the Command’s efforts to eradicate illicit drug abuse and trafficking.
