3/5/2025 Washington (International Christian Concern) — The International Religious Freedom Roundtable’s Working Group on Prisoners of Conscience recently launched a campaign to free five prisoners of conscience in five countries, including two highlighted in International Christian Concern’s (ICC) coverage.
The five prisoners have been unjustly imprisoned or persecuted simply for practicing their faith. The #FaithUnchained campaign, launched on Wednesday, seeks to put a spotlight on each of their cases and demand their immediate release.
Among the five is Y Quynh Bdap, co-founder of Montagnards Stand for Justice (MSFJ), who is facing extradition by Thailand at the request of the Vietnamese government. ICC has followed Bdap’s case closely and has investigated the plight of these Vietnamese Christians who have fled to Thailand.
Gao Zhisheng, an influential Christian human rights lawyer from China, is also on the list. In 2017, he was forcibly disappeared from his home in Jia County, Yulin Municipality, Shaanxi Province. His family still has no details on the status of his health or well-being. Gao, now 60, is known for representing Christians and for criticizing the Chinese government’s treatment of religious minorities.
The campaign will call on advocates from all corners of the international religious freedom movement to use their platforms to raise awareness through a pre-planned social media strategy and the opportunity to send letters calling for the urgent release of these prisoners of conscience.
