Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, has stated that the newly launched Ngarannam Livestock Estate in Borno State will bring an end to the persistent farmers-herders clashes in the country.
Located in Mafa Local Government Area, the estate is designed as a model settlement to modernize livestock production, reduce tensions, and improve livelihoods.
The minister, who commissioned the estate on Saturday, highlighted its role in addressing the root causes of conflicts over grazing land and farming activities.
“This settlement will provide a sustainable, climate-smart environment for livestock production, addressing the recurring conflicts and creating an atmosphere for peaceful coexistence,” Maiha said.
The project features facilities such as veterinary clinics, breeding centers, and milk collection hubs, aimed at enhancing the productivity of Nigeria’s livestock sector.
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State emphasized the estate’s strategic importance in rebuilding communities devastated by insurgency and restoring harmony among different groups.

“This project is not just about livestock; it’s about restoring peace and stability. It aligns with our vision of rebuilding a resilient and prosperous Borno,” Zulum said.
The estate also includes extensive infrastructure to support displaced families. Over 460 households, previously uprooted by insurgency, will receive livestock and essential relief materials.
Housing estates, schools, and health clinics have been established within the settlement, alongside solar-powered boreholes and earth dams to sustain year-round grazing.
Dr. Umar Kadafur, Borno’s Deputy Governor, highlighted the estate’s role in enhancing food security and reducing rural-urban migration. He urged other states to replicate the initiative, noting its potential to transform Nigeria’s livestock sector while fostering unity.
