About eight persons lost their lives in a fatal auto crash on Sunday night at Amala, Ngor Okpala, Imo State. Sources attributed the incident to reckless driving, which led to a head-on collision involving two vehicles.

Confirming the tragedy yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the crash occurred at about 6:45 p.m. and involved a Toyota Camry with registration number EPE 542 JO and a Hyundai Santa FE with registration number AAA 212 CD.

“The tragic incident involved a Toyota Camry and a Hyundai Santa FE. Regrettably, all eight occupants of both vehicles lost their lives in the crash, with no survivors,” Okoye said.

Police operatives from the Ngor Okpala Divisional Headquarters reportedly arrived promptly to manage the situation. The victims’ remains were evacuated and deposited in a mortuary while the vehicles were secured to ensure the free flow of traffic.

Okoye further disclosed that investigations had commenced, with efforts underway to identify and notify the victims’ families. “Pictorial evidence has been documented to aid further inquiries into the cause of the accident,” he said.

In a related development, the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, cautioned motorists against reckless driving and excessive speeding, citing them as major causes of road accidents. He urged road users to obey traffic rules, drive responsibly, and exercise patience, emphasising the importance of protecting lives on the road.
