Providing Hope When All Seems Lost

Date:

2/28/2025 Kenya (International Christian Concern) — In a small village in Kenya, a young man named Victor Jilo and his family embarked on a transformative journey.

Originally Muslims, they later dedicated their lives to Christ and converted to Christianity. For a long time, they faced numerous challenges and discrimination from relatives and members of the community. Victor faced an uncertain future.

Victor’s mother, Hadija Awadh, struggled to make ends meet. With no stable source of income, she worked as a day laborer to feed her children and cover basic needs — except for the fees for Victor’s high school education, which remained beyond her reach. To make matters worse, Hadija had been battling a chronic illness, further straining the family’s finances.

Despite their financial struggles, Victor never gave up on his studies. He worked hard and placed his faith in Christ, believing that the same God who saved them and led them to convert from Islam to Christianity would make a way for them to succeed and build a better future. Victor constantly encouraged his mother and siblings, reminding them to trust in God and believe that everything would be OK. His mother took his words to heart, holding onto the hope that one day, God would see them through.

With no help from their family members, hope seemed lost — until an International Christian Concern (ICC) staffer heard their story. ICC covered Victor’s school fees and paid for his school uniforms, books, and other essential materials. We also helped cover Hadija’s medical treatment and supported the family with food and other necessities.

Thanks to ICC’s supporters, Victor is now a thriving student. He remains determined to succeed, hoping to one day give back to his community. His mother’s health has significantly improved, allowing her to focus on supporting her son emotionally.

“Just when my hope seemed lost, ICC stepped in and helped my family and me,” Victor said joyfully. “As I used to encourage my mother that God would one day show us the way and make our lives better, today I am a testimony. Through ICC, I have seen that God’s timing is the best. Now, I have hope, and I believe that with this help, my future will be bright.”
