American rapper A$AP Rocky and his longtime partner, Rihanna, have playfully promised to name their next child after the lawyer who helped him win his felony assault trial.
The couple made the lighthearted remark on after A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Athelaston Mayers, was acquitted of the charges against him.
Their lawyer, Joe Tacopina, revealed the moment in an interview, saying Rihanna and Rocky grabbed him excitedly and joked, “Listen, our next baby is A$AP Joe.”
The case, which had kept the rapper under legal scrutiny for months, centred on an alleged assault.
However, after reviewing the evidence and testimonies, the court ruled in his favour, clearing him of all charges.
Shortly after the verdict, Rihanna, known for her chart-topping hits and beauty empire, took to social media to express her relief. She wrote,
“The glory belongs to God and God alone! Thankful, humbled by His mercy.”
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s love story dates back to 2012 when they performed together at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Their chemistry during the performance, especially when Rocky playfully grabbed Rihanna’s waist, fuelled dating rumours.
However, their romance became official years later, leading to the birth of their first son, RZA Athelston Mayers, in May 2022. Their second child, Riot Rose Mayers, was born in August 2023.
