2/13/2025 Sudan (International Christian Concern) — Youhana Argi was born into a deeply religious Muslim family in the Nuba Mountains in South Kordofan, Sudan. One day, he did what many in the region considered unthinkable.
My faith was a central part of my life, but in 2008, I made the difficult and life-changing decision to leave Islam and embrace Christianity,” he said. “The moment I received Christ as my personal Savior, I knew my life would never be the same. But this decision came with heavy consequences.”
In 2014, Argi was arrested and spent three months in prison for apostasy, a crime punishable by death in Sudan.
“During this time, I was humiliated and tortured, but my faith in Christ gave me the strength to endure,” he said. “The struggle continued when I was arrested again in 2016 for four days. No one knew where I was, and I faced even greater isolation. But by God’s grace, I was able to leave Sudan in 2017 and make my way to Kenya, where I hoped for a brighter future.”
As he started a new life, Argi struggled to make ends meet. He also found it challenging to adapt to the new culture and pursue an education without financial support.
“Starting a new life in Kenya came with its own set of challenges,” he said. “Despite these obstacles, I was determined to pursue my education. I joined Yongsan Bible College and graduated in 2018. But my dream was not yet fulfilled. I knew I wanted to go further — to earn a degree that would help me make a meaningful impact in my community.”
Not knowing how he would make it work financially, Argi applied to St. Paul’s University.
“While the path was difficult, I kept my eyes on the goal,” he said. “The financial strain was constant, making it difficult to focus on my studies, but I never gave up.”
After years of relentless effort, Argi’s perseverance finally paid off. In 2023, a life-changing opportunity emerged when Pastor Aziz connected him with International Christian Concern (ICC), whose support became the turning point in his journey.
“When ICC came into my life, it was like a light at the end of a long, dark tunnel,” he said with gratitude. “ICC’s generous support made it possible for me to focus on my studies without the constant worry of how to pay for tuition and living expenses. With their help, I was able to complete my studies and graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education.
“This achievement is not just an academic success — it is a milestone and a victory over all the struggles, doubts, and hardships I faced along the way.”
Argi shared his excitement over this victory that God had helped him achieve through ICC.
“As I look forward to the future, I am committed to using my education and experiences to shape my destiny,” he said. “This is not just the end of one chapter — it is the beginning of a new one, filled with endless possibilities.
“Thank you to ICC and everyone who has supported me along the way. Your encouragement and help have made all the difference in my journey. This graduation is not just mine — it is a shared achievement with everyone who has believed in me.”
