President Bola Tinubu has assented to the bill to establish the Federal University of Environment Technology in Ogoni.
The Presidency announced this via its official handle on X.
Over the years, Ogoni indigenes and various groups have urged different presidents to establish this university in Ogoni.
To this effect, a bill was introduced on the floor of the National Assembly, and the Senate passed it in March 2022.
The bill, however, was not assented into law until Monday.

Ogoni is an oil-rich region in the Niger Delta whose indigenes and residents have struggled with oil spills, water pollution, fishing ground contamination, and farmland degradation.
The region has also battled gas flaring from the oil extraction process, along with decreasing crop yields and fish catches.
