03/06/2024 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – International Christian Concern (ICC) visited 17 different Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camps in three counties that were attacked by the Fulani militants from December 2023 to January 2024.
“The IDP camps are recognized by the state government,” said Sunday Abdu, a senior government official of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (PLASEMA). “37,000.00 were displaced during an attack by gunmen from last year to date. They are all in an IDP camp recognized by the State Government.”
The ICC staffer recorded 1,347 killed from last year to date mostly women, children, and older adults who could not run to escape.
From the data collected, 741 people were killed in Mangu county, 397 people were killed in Bokkos county, and 209 people were killed in Barkin Ladi.
Women and Children are in the IDP Camp, suffering from limited food supply from the government. Abdu told ICC that the government is doing its best to ensure food is available, but it is limited due to the economic hardships in the country. Abdul seeks the help of the international community to come to the aid of the IDPs in various camps in the state.
“Help us with food,” Naomi David, a 43-year widow in Barki Ladi county says. Nine people were killed from her family, including her husband. She continued,“My village was attacked by Fulani [militants] on Christmas Eve. The total number of 22 people killed from the attack. My husband was killed with eight others from my family. We are suffering without food, and Fulani [militants] have occupied our land to graze their cattle.”
